Kargı

The name of Kargı was known as BLAENE before the settlement of Turks. The city’s taking the name of Kargı dates back to the first quarter of 16th century.

Kargı was administered as being the part of Osmancık and Tosya for some time. In 1936, it became a town and was administered by Çorum in 1956. It is 113 km from the town center. It is a beautiful town on the highway of Osmancık-Tosya in Kızılırma Valley. The historical buildings in Kargı are : Mihrihatun Mosque and its bath built on behalf of Murad IV’s wife Mihrihatun , mosque from Seljuks in Oğuz village and Hacıhamza Castle and Inn.

Kargı plains are the most important touristy places in the town. The infrastructure of Abdullah plain is completed and there is no accomodation problem here. The town is famous for Kargı Plain , Eğinönü Plain, Aksu , Göl , Örencik , Karaboyu , Gökçedoğan Plains.

Geographical Structure

It is 106 km from Çorum. The acreage of the town is 1277 km2. It has an elevation of  450m. The climate is influenced by Black Sea and the average rainfall is 360,3mm.

Administrative Structure and Population Status

The population of the town is 5.728 as to the census held in 2000. The total population is 20.388 with the villages. There is a district (Hacıhamza) in the district of town center and there are 58 villages.
