İskilip Rock Tombs :

There are rock tombs from Roman era which are built in the south and southeast side of the 100 meter high castle belonging to Ottoman era. The one on the southeastern part has a rectangular entrance with two columns. There are lions on the tops. There are two more lion figures. The reliefs have one sword and one glass.There are two platforms of death in the tomb.

 







Laçin Kapılıkaya Monumental Rock Tomb :

It is 27 km from Çorum, Kırkdilim.  It is on steep rocky territory and it is on the edge of a rock which is on the norh-western part of the rock block.

The Hellenistic era rock stone dating back to BC second century belongs to commander IKEZIOS  . It has a trapezoid ground 65 meter above from the stream. You can pass to the second platform with an 8-step-stair and to the part in front of the tomb with 12-step-stair.

The writing IKEZIOS can be read on the tomb door. The tomb has square plan and there are death figures on the right and the left niches.

Çorum is on a busy route which connects Black Sea Region to Central Anatolia Region and Eastern Anatolia to west for its geographical position. It has its own culture and artistic tradition. It hosted many cultures and it incorporates the products of different cultural and historical heritage. Çorum which has an important place in the history with its essential  past and rich culture is one of the touristic center in our country in terms of culture tourism. 

The datas dating back to 7000 years ago can be found in our city and Hattis, the capital of Hittites who established the first settled  civilization, is also in the borders of Çorum. Hattis, taken in to the World Heritage List,  is one of the 9 wonders of our country.  The Hittites are as old as Egyptian Civilization, the tablets of Kades Treaty signed between these two civilizations were found in Boğazköy. More than ninety gods, goddesses, animals and imaginary creatures processed on rocks  have been found on Yazılıkaya Rock Temple. 

The excavations of Alacahöyük, one of the first national ones , were performed  with the order of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The pieces found in 13 Kings’  tombs (Sun Discs, Bull and Deer Statutues)  from pro-Hıttites period show the high culture of the era.  The Sphinx Gate and the reliefs  are the reflections of Hittite Religious Ceremonies.

The building in which the pieces from  the capital Hattis and Alacahöyük , Ortaköy-Şapinuva , Hüseyindede excavations was registered as the Conservation of Immovable Cultural Property. This  building dating back to 1915 has the late Ottoman period features. It was restored and opened as Çorum Museum.  The exhibition in the museum is performed in a contemporary understanding. The pieces from the civilizations from Late Chalcolithic period  (BC 5000) until today is exhibited chronologically.

Hittites still live with their cultural heritage in any part of Anatolia and they  had the biggest military political power  in that era. They were also one of the most important rivals of the Pharaoh. They also changed the face of middle-east. They have a history of 3500 years and Boğazkale was the capital of Hittites for 450 years.
Hattis is 209 from the eastern Ankara, and 83 km from southern Çorum.  If you take the first right after 5 km from the Sungurlu turn on the Ankara-Samsun highway and drive for another 24 km , you can arrive at Boğazkale. From the nineth km of Boğazkale road, you can reach Alaca. And from this road, going for another 10km will take you to Alacahöyük. Historical and Cultural city of Çorum is one of the tourism center to see.

 Mosques, bridges, castles, and examples of civil architecture of Seljuk and Ottoman period, each of which is a masterpiece,  ornament any part of Çorum.It is  also among the cultural and touristic centers of our country.

Three excavations which were allowed by the council of ministers are still being held in our city. One of them is foreign, the other two are domestic. Apart from these, there are two protection excavation performed bu the  Head of Directorate of Museums. Furthermore, the surface researches are still being held by the scientists. The Hittitology Congress which is held every three years is also held in our city every six years. Many scientists from all over the world participate in this congress. The permanency of this congress contribute to our country introduction seriously. Çorum is also worth seeing for its natural beauties such as plains and canyons like İncesu. The smell of roasted chickpeas also adds a distinctive beauty to the city atmosphere.  Rice produced in Osmancık and Kargı is worth tasting for their different tastes.  

Our city is also developed in terms of industry and trade. In parallel to this, the facilities don’t have enough capacity for panel discussion, symposium and conference tourism. The four and five star hotels which are still being constructed will make our city the congress centre of the region.
